In February 2025, Representative Emilia Sykes introduced H.R. 971: RAIL Act to prevent derailments, improve inspections, and strengthen hazardous material transport regulations.

  • Mandatory hotbox detectors every 10 miles on Class I railroads
  • Increased penalties for safety violations
  • New safety rules for crew sizes and hazardous shipments

Backed by IAM and IBEW, the RAIL Act prioritizes rail worker and public safety.
